Cthulhu Dark

Created by Graham Walmsley

Cthulhu Dark is a tabletop roleplaying game of cosmic horror, with stripped-back rules that drive a bleak and terrifying story.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

The eye
over 6 years ago – Mon, Sep 25, 2017 at 10:38:20 PM

As I work on editing Cthulhu Dark and laying it out, I thought you'd like to see how it's going. Here's a mock-up of the hardback, which shows the latest layout.

Now, see those new text ornaments, either side of "The Doors Beyond Time"? Those are by Nathan Paoletta. They appear throughout the book and they complement the layout beautifully, filling in the blank space that was there before. It's incredible how a tiny thing can make the book so much better.

Nathan has also drawn the eye symbol at the bottom of this update. If you ordered the leather version, that's what you'll see staring at you from the cover: imagine burgundy leather, with that eye stamped in gold leaf.

Meanwhile, I'm talking to the printer about the Cthulhu Dark order. Don't expect a blow-by-blow account of the printing process, but I wanted you to know that things are on track.

And now I'll get back to editing and layout. Thanks, as always, for your support. The end is in sight.

Hacking Guide
over 6 years ago – Mon, Sep 25, 2017 at 08:27:16 PM

Dear Season Pass Backers,

If you check your BackerKit account, you'll find the Hacking Guide, one of the stretch goals. It's short! I hope you like it.

As always, I'd love your feedback.

Mumbai 2037
over 6 years ago – Mon, Aug 28, 2017 at 08:02:12 PM

If you have the Season Pass, check your BackerKit account, because you'll find Mumbai 2037 there!

My cyberpunk Mumbai setting is one of my favourite things I've written in the last few years. It lets you explore a city of glowing screens, concrete towers and incomprehensible wealth, in which penthouses tower above the underways below. It comes with the bleak and maddening mystery Consume.

As always, I'd love your feedback on Mumbai 2037. Get in touch at graham at thievesoftime dot com.

This is the last Cthulhu Dark setting for the main rulebook, but it's not the last thing you'll get. Still to come is the Hacking Guide, my Design Notes, Mo Holkar's mystery Good As A Feast and, exclusive to Season Pass Backers, Chris Spivey's mystery The Whole Is Greater.

You'll have noticed that these settings have been coming at a furious pace, one every two weeks. That will slow down a bit now, as I turn my attention to finishing the book for publication. I plan to send you something about once a month until the book is published.

I hope you enjoy exploring Mumbai 2037.

Cthulhu Dark Zero in print
over 6 years ago – Mon, Aug 21, 2017 at 01:21:58 AM

If you've been waiting for the print copy of Cthulhu Dark Zero, I've sent you a link that lets you get it at cost. It's a beautiful thing, with a custom cover by George Cotronis. You'll see it at the bottom of this update.

If you haven't received a link, check your spam folder. And, if it's not there, get in touch with me at [email protected] and I'll resend it.

Note that this is not the main book, just the preview version! Later in the year, I'll do a full print run and you'll get the full hardback book, with all the settings.

Meanwhile, things are going well! As you'll know if you have the Season Pass, I've finished editing and layout for everything except Mumbai 2037, which I'm working on now. The dark is getting closer.

Thanks to Mike O'Sullivan for this picture.

Jaiwo 2017
over 6 years ago – Tue, Aug 15, 2017 at 11:43:51 PM

Hello, Season Pass backers!

You now have Jaiwo 2017, the third and beautiful setting for Cthulhu Dark, by Helen Gould. You'll find it in your BackerKit account. It comes with the mystery The Curse of the Zimba, which is wonderfully creepy in play.

If you spot anything I need to correct, do let me know at [email protected].

I'm currently working on the last Cthulhu Dark setting for the rulebook, Mumbai 2037. That's by me and I think it's one of the best things I've written. I'm looking forward to sending it to you.

For the moment, enjoy Jaiwo.
